This just came in from one of my students who in now in the Peace Corp working in Micronesia.
"I have been planning to send out a BIG thank you letter for quite a
while now, but I was saving it for when I had some pictures to pass
along too. Well, they finally came -- my host father caught a 45 lbs
blue marlin earlier this week and has been asking me every day since
if I've sent out the pictures. Needless to say he was beyond excited
about the lures. In fact, the catch here was the result of his first
time using them -- no doubt a sign of excellent craftsmanship
I am not a particularly skilled photographer, so the pictures here are
very mediocre. I will of course pass along pictures of other catches
when they come. Last year a group caught an 85 lbs yellowfin tuna,
which was quite a sight. I have no idea how they pulled it up. I've
gone out trolling with my host father a few times and caught a fair
number of ahi -- skipjack and yellowfin -- and I have a hard time
holding onto and pulling in just the little 8 pounders.
In any case, I hope this finds you both happy and healthy. Thank you
so much again for getting those lures to me. I -- and my host father
-- very much appreciate it. He's even mentioned a few times about
possibly ordering more for himself and other fishermen on the island.
So who knows, maybe I'll get back to you with an order sometime soon.
Aloha!
Ashley
