Howzit....I'm still a newbie at whipping MW lures. Still waiting for a photo op...know what I mean? (Catching Oahu right now..lol). But I just love the lures! I got a 9' Ugly (light action) and an old Daiwa reel. I get some chasers and occassional missed strikes which is a thrill for me but I think I need to get the lures our further for more exposure in the water. Just my 2 cents.....Aloha and happy whippin'

I'm using a penn battle 3000.pretty good reel since it comes with a rubber gasket to hold braid so no mono backing needed.20lb green Tuf line XP.havent purchased a rod yet but I was looking at the 10ft cabelas medium 08 spinning rods.they look good for a beginner whopper like me.i use the same reels and line on my dunking poles so I know thee decent enough for whipping.i actually went whipping today with my friends .5 white/red eyes with a medium 8 ft pole and my penn battle 3000.i can't believe the distance I got on the cast.lures have great action no matter what style I was using.had a couple chasers which wasn't expected cause I was just practicing in 5 ft of water on a low tide.caught a 14 inch Christmas wrasse also which ended up going out on my ulua pole hahaha.

heavier lure and or rod that will let you load the tip up for a good launch.ugly stick good for the cast but I find it to be a heavy rod (even the lite version).your forearms won't like you too much lol.
