Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum. I usually dunk when I go fishing but my friend recently introduced me to whipping with mw lures. All I can say is that I'm hooked.
All my gear is basic:
I get a cheap shimano fx 4000fb reel (will dis be good for whipping?)
1 oz oama mw lure
As for the pole, I goin buy one new one. I just need some opinions. Length? Stiff or flexible?
And for the lure set up, the McMahon swivel is expensive so would a slip shot ring attached to a two way swivel be ok?

Thank you for the replies. Any other input will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Usmahopeful. You have a good friend. Gear ratio on the fx is 4.6. I like a faster retrieve ratio for my lures, like 5.8-6.0, less work to get good action. For the pole, I'd go to McCulley Bike and check out their selection of 10-10.5' My attitude is to be able to let the pole do most of the work by having a more flexible taper. You sacrifice on controlling the fish but it gives me more milage with casts and retrieves. Your swivel design is a good one and is used by the guys who seriously whip for Ulua. Good luck and good skills!
